I remember back in the early 70s being on our first ever foreign holiday,when we were invited by friends to go with them to Lloret de Mar. It was very exotic at the time, although i remember being highly ticked off that we were not staying camping in Llangwnnadl instead. We went out for dinner one night- another big treat and had a huge plate of paella being put in front of us. And then much to my mortification- 13 is the height for parental embarrassment- dad did his Bite the Plate trick. Never a problem in the UK but the spanish waiters went ballistic. I can feel the wish to disappear now. But dad just smiled,explained and left the waiters laughing- even without a common language, he managed to charm his way through.
